A 6.5 Million Dollar Budget Surplus, And They Want To Raise Taxes?

The proposed American Fork City 2015-2016 budget is up about 6.5 million from last years budget, but some on the City Council still want to raise the Sales Tax, again.  Yes, this is a new possible sales tax increase, in addition to the $640,000 plus PARC sales tax increase of last year.  This new sales tax increase will be pitched as necessary for roads.  The funny thing is, the budget is up significantly over the last two years, by about 4 million in last years budget, and by about 6.5 million in the proposed budget.  The money for roads is there, what appears to be lacking is the political will by most elected City Council officials to make sure an appropriate percentage of annual budget increases get targeted to roads.

Even with a budget surplus, you wanted higher taxes, right?

Disclosure:  I'm opposed to the proposed roads Sales Tax increase.  Are you?

Update:  Good news from the American Fork City Council on June 9, 2015. The Council voted not to recommend a local option Sales Tax increase to the County. Congrats to my colleagues on the Council for taking the right stand on this issue. I also enjoyed hearing the other Councilman's reasoning for Voting No to the Sales Tax increase.
